Support for Families (S4F)
- offering support to families affected by drug and alcohol misuse.
The service was established In 1999 by a group of mothers devastated by their sons' heroin use. The mission was to "develop a telephone helpline that would offer a listening ear for anyone affected by someone else’s substance misuse and to ensure every family accessing help would receive it”.
We have grown since then and Today - we don't just provide a telephone helpline, we aim to enhance the lives of individuals affected by a family member, friend or partner’s substance misuse through the provision of a dedicated programme of support, including information and advice, counselling, peer support, and complimentary therapies.
Feedback from the mother of a heroin user:
“ I am so very grateful to have had such a helpful person on the other end of the phone to talk to about my son and in particular the distressing events over the past years or so. The peace of mind and support family support service has given me has been wonderful”.
